Bergamotto e Benzoino

My friend Francesca was recently in Paris and brought me back a small vial of Acqua Universalis by Maison F. Kurkdjian . She also gave me a box of mint-scented bubbles.Bubbles, yes, those for children to blow. Fanciful item (but not what I wanted to talk to you). I was waiting eagerly for her return because I had read wonders about the A.U. and I had great expectations.

La mia amica Francesca è stata recentemente a Parigi e mi ha portato una fialetta di Acqua Universalis della Maison F. Kurkdjian. Mi ha anche portato una confezione di bolle profumate alla menta. Bolle, sì, proprio quelle per i bambini, quelle da soffiare. Oggettino sfizioso, che ha sfiziato per prima lei e poi anche me (ma non è di questo che volevo parlarvi).

Domani da Caleri, in via XXV Aprile (tel. 010 581312) parleremo di Agrumi e Vaniglia! L'incontro, dal titolo " Winter Blues Bye Bye: scacciare la tristezza dell'inverno con l'energia degli agrumi e la carezza della vaniglia ", inizia intorno alle 18. Per primi esamineremo alcuni oli essenziali agrumari ed esploreremo molte, moltissime fragranze che contengono limone, bergamotto, lime, arancio dolce, petit-grain, pomplemo, mandarino e cedro, per proseguire con alcune fragranze alla vaniglia: Vanilia e Havana Vanille dell'Artisan Parfumeur, la Vanille di St. Barth, Chyprè Vanille di Montale, Bal Musquè di Nez à Nez. A few months ago during Pitti Immagine Fragranze, I met Olivier Durbano. His story intrigued me very much. He started years ago as a jewelry designer: unique pieces that he imagines starting from the most beautiful stones he encounters. The stones speak to him with a symbolism which inspires him, he makes necklaces and bracelets where forms are only there to bring attention to the beauty of the stone with the starring role. His website has a gallery with some really beautiful works ( here and here my favourites). A few years ago he spent time in Grasse, and was at that time that he felt something inside urging him toward Perfume and creation. Qualche mese fa, in occasione di Pitti Immagine Fragranze, ho potuto incontrare Olivier Durbano. La sua storia mi ha intrigata parecchio: lui ha iniziato anni fa come designer di gioielli, pezzi unici che immagina a partire dalle pietre, bellissime, che incontra. Le pietre gli parlano con un simbolismo che lo appassiona e lo ispira, lui si limita a farle esprimere al meglio creando collane e bracciali dove le forme servono solo per portare in risalto la bellezza della pietra protagonista. Ed in effetti, nel suo sito c’è una galleria con alcuni lavori davvero belli ( qui e qui i miei preferiti). Qualche anno fa però, ha trascorso un periodo a Grasse, ed è stato in quell’occasione, che ha sentito qualcosa dentro di sé che lo attirava verso il Profumo e la creazione. Yes I know, we generally speak of winter perfumes in late autumn to prepare for the cold wave and get an idea of what to ask Santa. Instead I'd like to outline a report: what perfumes are you using to warm yourselves up in recent months? I'll be the first: t his winter I'm wearing some powerful, warm muscs l like Kiehl's Musk Oil and Muscs Kubla Khan (Lutens), which envelope me with their sweet, erotic charm. Some refined leathers like Ten by Knize and Cuir Ambre by Prada, which gives my days structure and disciplinates me when I feel restless and feel like procrastinating things. Woods of great character l ike Coromandel (Chanel), the most refined patchouli you can possbily find, Tiarè St. Barth (my winter classic, patchouli, more than tiarè, unfortunately discontinued) and Bois Farine (L'Artisan Parfumeur), which I prefear wearing at home, because it's very intimate, it highlights parts of me that I feel like keeping for myself. Sì lo so, si parla di profumi invernali alla fine dell'autunno, per prepararsi all'ondata di freddo e farsi un'idea di cosa farsi regalare a Natale o giù di lì. Invece io vorrei fare un consuntivo: quali profumi abbiamo usato di più per riscaldarci in questi ultimi mesi? Io  ho indossato dei bei muschi caldi e potenti come il Musk Oil di Kiehl's e Muscs Kubla Khan di Lutens, con le loro spire sensuali mi avviluppano di dolcezza e calore assolutamente carnali. Dei bei cuoiati raffinati  come Ten di Knize e Cuir Ambre di Prada, soprattutto, che mi sembra diano struttura alle mie giornate e mi disciplinino quando non ho voglia di fare qualcosa ( e magari a devo fare per forza). Dei legnosi di gran carattere come Coromandel (Chanel), il patchouli più raffinato che si possa trovare, il Tiarè di St. Barth (un classico dei miei inverni, molto più patchouli che tiarè, purtroppo non più in produzione) e Bois Farine (L'Artisan Parfumeur) soffice come una nuvola, che pr

Il mese scorso il blog B&B è apparso su una rivista di profumi e cosmetica in distribuzione nelle profumerie: Spray . Vi posto un'immagine qui a lato. Non posso non ringraziare la cara Valentina, giornalista che dirige la rivista, con cui è un vero piacere collaborare. E un supergrazie alla mia amica fotografa Paola Leoni ( qui il suo blog ), per le bellissime foto che ogni tanto mi fa! Qualche tempo fa Stephane mi ha mandato alcune fiale con le sue prime esplorazioni sul tema del Giappone e una bozza della fragranza Hiroshima Mon Amour. Siamo a buon punto, Stephane la sta semplicemente affinando ma la struttura di base e la maggior parte dello sviluppo, ci sono già. Lui la definisce un “parfum de peau”, e lo è: sebbene si senta in maniera distinta non si proietta lontano, resta ben presente sulla pelle senza essere invadente.  Qui accanto vi posto una bozza del packaging e dell'immagine che accompagna la fragranza (non definitive).

Some time ago Stephane mailed me some vials with his first explorations on the theme of Japan and an outline of the fragrance Hiroshima Mon Amour. Stephane's almost finished it and now is busy giving the final brushes, but the basic structure and most of the development, are there already. He defines it a "parfum de peau," and indeed it is; although it’s very present, stays near the skin and projects only a little. Here you have a draft of the packaging and the visual accompanying it, still to be confirmed.

I have a number of other things half-written or nearly finished on my desktop: so speaking of Tam Dao today wasn’t in schedule. I should’ve posted pictures of Thursday’s meeting at Caleri’s (ww.mentelocale.it on the homepage, righthand), perhaps with a little report of the meeting (the most interesting so far); I also wanted to post the visual of Hiroshima Mon Amour with my emotional output after sniffing Stephane’s almost finished draft. And then there's the article issued on “Spray” just to show off a little bit. All this in theory. Instead, in the last weeks as I was preparing the lecture on woody base perfumes, I discovered Tam Dao (Diptyque) and ... bamm! It was absolute love.

Ho una serie di  cose mezze scritte, imbastite o quasi finite sul desktop, quindi in teoria, parlare di Tam Dao oggi non ci stava proprio. Avrei dovuto farvi vedere le foto dell’incontro di giovedì da Caleri ( http://www.mentelocale.it/ in homepage, a destra), magari con un po’ di resoconto (è stata la lezione più bella finora), eppoi avrei dovuto postarvi il visual di Hiroshima Mon Amour con le mie emozioni sulla fialetta che Stephane mi ha mandato con la fragranza quasi finita. Eppoi c’è l’articolo su Spray da farvi vedere, gongolando un po’. Tutto questo in teoria. Invece, nelle settimane scorse mentre mi preparavo per la lezione sui profumi a base legnosa ho scoperto Tam Dao (Diptyque) e… bamm! E’ stato amore assoluto.
