Esxence Fotoreport 5: Ashoka (Neela Vermeire)

One of the fragrances that most struck me among those on display at Esxence is the new launch by  Neela Vermeire: Ashoka. A fragrance characterized by a base of very expensive and hard-to-find Mysore sandalwood like we haven't smelled since years. The scent is dedicated to Ashoka, one of the greatest Indian Emperors who lived over 2000 years ago. After conquering the city of Kalinga, killing hundreds of thousands people, Ashoka was overcome by a feeling of pity and remorse for all the deaths he had caused. Eventually he converted to Buddhism and lived thereafter in accordance with this philosophy, issuing "enlightened" edicts and laws that aimed to create peace and protect the weak. The scent "Ashoka" features a solid and well established base of sandalwood and musk, the gentleness which won the Emperor's heart is reflected in a floral body with a strong mimosa note. The scent has a good projection with no need for loudness (it's an Emperor, after all!) and lasts several hours. The new bottle signed by Dinand -which you see in the picture, with a flattened base- is still in production and this means that for a few months Ashoka will not be in stores. But as soon as you find it (and certainly if you go to Esxence) take time to discover it because it's really worth.
